The saying that “you are what you eat” is more than just an old adage. It is literally true, because the foods we consume actually become a part of our body and therefor also our minds. When we eat fresh, wholesome, well grown and well prepared foods, our bodies, our minds and our level of happiness all benefit.

Eating a healthy diet can increase a person’s level of happiness in several ways. When we eat healthy food, we know psychologically that we are doing something good for ourselves. This little mental trick can make us feel better and happier all by itself.

Most everyone knows the feeling of eating some kind of junk food and feeling a bit guilty about it. When we make a choice to eat a nutritious, healthy food, our subconscious minds are registering this information, helping us feel better about ourselves.

Just as important, if not more important, is the effect of healthy food on our body. Our bodies naturally crave wholesome, nutrient dense foods filled with high quality protein, good carbohydrates and necessary minerals and vitamins. When we supply our body with these ingredients of health, our body responds by giving us more energy and improving our mood.
